Treasurer
As the receiving agent for the county, the Storey County Treasurer oversees receipt of all public funds for:
The treasurer collects all real property taxes annually for over 4,700 parcels in the county, as well as licenses and other monies due to county departments. The treasurer works very closely with both the County Assessor and Board of Commissioners. The assessor sets the assessed property valuation for all Storey County properties while the County Commission sets the tax rate.
It is the treasurer’s responsibility to then verify that all appropriate taxes are collected, accounted for, and distributed to the appropriate taxing entities.
Any surplus funds collected by the county are invested on behalf of the public by the treasurer. Under the “Prudent Man Rule,” the primary role in investing is to balance risk and return. Each investment made by the treasurer comes after considering the probable safety of their capital and probable income to be derived.
Additionally, investments with high liquidity are made to help ensure the availability of funds required for operations of Storey County’s government.
