BUILDING CODES

OVERVIEW | AMENDMENTS TO CODES | CODE COMPLIANCE

Code Compliance

Storey County Building Codes are adopted and enforced by Storey County to ensure that structures in which we live, work and play meet recognized minimum standards for protection against structural collapse, fire, explosion, health hazards and other potential dangers.

Storey County strives to continually improve the standards of construction by publicizing information on building codes (link to Building Codes in this section then remove this note) and ultimately through enforcement of all codes. Code violations that are reported by the public or other agencies are investigated in a timely manner for validity by code compliance investigators. If deemed a code violation, the responsible party may receive a civil penalty.

We take great pride in responding quickly to complaints from the public and County personnel of alleged land use, grading, and building code violations to secure code compliance.

Suspected code violations can be reported to the Code Enforcement Violations Officer. Contact the office for more information.

Storey County Community Development enforces regulations relating to the following:
  • Condition of existing structures that constitute a clear and present danger to the public.
  • Building Code violations (building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, access, etc.) including construction or change of occupancy without permits.
  • HUD requirements (minimum standards for safe and sanitary housing).
  • Illegal dumping.
  • Liquid waste disposal.
  • Zoning requirements for structures such as use, location, configuration, size and land use requirements.
  • Code enforcement violations.
