Domestic violence is an epidemic affecting individuals in every community, regardless of age, economic status, race, religion, nationality or educational background.  Domestic violence is often accompanied by emotionally abusive and controlling behavior, and thus is part of a systematic pattern of dominance and control.

In Nevada, we have a Mandatory Arrest Law (NRS 171.137)  This means that a police officer shall, unless mitigating circumstances exist, arrest a person when he/she has probable cause to believe that the person to be arrested has, within the preceding 24 hours, committed a domestic battery.

Anyone arrested under this statute will not be able to post bail for at least 12 hours.  If the officer is unable to arrest the person suspected of committing the battery, you, the victim, have the right to request that the prosecutor file a criminal complaint against the person.
