At the beginning of 2006, Storey County partnered with the State of Nevada to conduct an All Hazards Vulnerability Study for the entire county. This process was conducted for every county in the state. Storey County was the first county to complete its study and present it to the State. The four districts of the County (River, Highlands, Six Mile and Virginia City) were all extensively studied in light of potential man-made or natural disasters, or possible terrorism. This included a study of the impact of any incidents within Storey County that might effect surrounding counties, as well as the impact to Storey County by similar events that might occur in counties that surround Storey. This study will serve to establish Storey County’s status as a contributing governmental entity in the overall picture of the great State of Nevada. With the current and impending growth in both industrial and residential growth in the County the potential for natural, man-made and terrorism events is significant. This growth potential in Storey County is closely monitored by the emergency management function.
