The Storey County Economic Development department is dedicated to serving the needs of new and expanding businesses, as well as the companies that have been doing business in the region for a number of years. Our economic development initiatives help support over 800 businesses in Storey County and have aided in the development of 4,100 job creations in the county, especially in the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center.

The Economic Development team works closely with the Storey County Planning Department to ensure our zoning plans are situated for the county’s long term economic vitality. Additionally, our team is available to assist new businesses with permit applications, variance applications and other related zoning issues. Marketing and Attraction

The Storey County Economic Development department works closely with leaders in the public and private sectors to stimulate business development by retaining existing employers, supporting expansion efforts and marketing the county to attract new businesses to Storey County. Through close involvement with the
Northern Nevada Development Authority, Storey County representatives meet with prospective businesses to answer questions about the area and assist in site selection efforts. We maintain a variety of brochures for inquiring businesses, complete with up-to-date demographic, statistical and quality of life information. Most recently, Storey County helped support the new Tahoe Reno Industrial Center by approving 6,000 acres for industrial use.

The Tahoe Reno Industrial Center (TRI) is a 104,000 acre center, located in the community of McCarran, and has the capacity of 80-million-square-feet of industrial space. Some of the companies already at TRI include Master Foods (dog food and cat food), Dell Computers, Plow & Hearth (1-800-Flowers), Alcoa, James Hardie, Royal Sierra Extrusions, Golden Gate Petroleum, Wal-Mart, and others. There are an additional 3 million square feet currently under construction at TRI, including Trammel Crowe, Pro-Logis, Trans Western Polymers, Pittsburg Paint and many others. Also located in the area of TRI are three sophisticated power plants: Sierra Pacific Power, Barrick Mines, and Naniwa (a power plant that provides additional power support during peak hours).
