Commission Appointment

This afternoon, Governor Jim Gibbons appointed long time Virginia City resident Erlene Flanagan to fill the remaining term of the Storey County Board of Commissioners seat recently vacated due to the death of her husband John. In a special ceremony to officially announce Mrs. Flanagan’s appointment, Governor Gibbons stated “First let me offer my deepest condolences to Erlene and the Flanagan family for their loss,” Governor Gibbons said, “John Flanagan was a good man and a good Commissioner. I am pleased Erlene has accepted this appointment to the Commission. She frequently attended meetings with John and is very familiar with the issues facing Storey County.”

At the same brief ceremony, Mrs. Flanagan stated that “I am proud and humbled that Governor Gibbons has shown so much confidence in me,” Erlene Flanagan said, “I will work hard with the other Commissioners to do what’s best for Storey County.

Storey County Commission Chairman Greg “Bum” Hess called the appointment “an outstanding choice” and thanked not only the Governor but also Mrs. Flanagan in making the commitment to continue to serve the people of Storey County in the Flanagan family name.
