Health and Wellness Center

In Storey County, we envision the Health and Wellness Center as a multi-use space where we offer integrated, holistic health care, to our Storey County residents and ensure our service delivery system will encompass neighboring communities and their residents.

Community Health Alliance (formerly known as Health Access Washoe County (HAWC) has provided primary care to Storey County residents for many years.  Due to declining use and patient numbers they were unable to sustain services.  Patients were notified through direct mail and the public through local newspapers.

A Health & Wellness Taskforce was formed and Storey County is contributing $25,000 towards re-establishing basic health services to our residents.

Community Chest Inc. has submitted a proposed scope of work to Carson City Health & Human Services to provide community health prevention services with the provision to transition to primary care in the near future.

In addition to filling the immediate need for medical services, Community Chest will establish a schedule at the Health & Wellness Center (where HAWC as formally located at 175 East Carson Street) for counseling and case management services, including the employment program staff.

Community Chest Inc. hopes to recruit a volunteer to serve as a Community Health Advocate by getting out in the community and helping residents navigate the system of services so that they can maintain their health and well-being.  The volunteer will receive a stipend and eventually we hope to employ this person.  Interested individuals should contact, Erik Schoen of Community Chest at 775-847-9311 ext. 102.

Members of the taskforce will be reaching out to schools, community centers and senior centers to share their ideas for making this Health & Wellness Center a place that everyone feels welcome and that has the kinds of programs and services that everyone wants to use or feels they can benefit from.

Everyone plays a vital role in our success and we are committed to overcome barriers and find solutions together.  We will treat every client with respect and dignity as we consider everyone of equal value.  We will work to build trust among providers and our clients. The future of the Health and Wellness Center is about the health of our people and our communities!
