Judges

  •  Judge James Todd Russell attended and graduated from Carson High School in 1965 and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of Nevada, Reno, in 1969.  He graduated from the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law in 1974, after serving as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army from 1969-1971.

    Judge Russell worked as a Law Clerk at the Nevada Supreme Court from 1974 to 1975; and as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of Nevada from 1975 to 1976.  From 1976 to 2006, he was in private practice in Carson City, Nevada, during which time he had extensive civil litigation experience.

    Judge Russell was appointed District Court Judge of the First Judicial District Court on January 1, 2007.  He is married to Jeanne, and has two grown children, Matthew and Timothy.


     

  • Judge William Maddox attended and graduated from Carson High School in 1965 and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Texas A&M University in 1969. He served from 1969-1971 in the U.S. Army including a tour of Vietnam.  He was awarded the Bronze Star, Air Medal, and Combat Infantry Badge. Judge Maddox worked as an Administrative Hearing Officer for the California Department of Benefits from 1975-1977; Deputy District Attorney for Carson City 1978-1981; and Carson City District Attorney, 1981-1985.  He served as the United States Attorney for the District of Nevada from 1985-1989 and entered private practice in 1989.  He has extensive trial experience from the local to federal levels. Judge Maddox was appointed District Court Judge of the First Judicial District Court in August, 2000. Judge Maddox’s caseload covers arbitration/mediation, juvenile court, and drug court proceedings.
