What is spatial data?

Spatial data are a description of the physical location of objects and their relationship to other objects. These data include points such as landmarks or buildings, road or stream networks, and even remotely sensed data from satellites. Spatial information is used to develop applications as diverse as wild land fire management systems, ambulance dispatch services and construction survey plans.

Can the general public download a GIS map?

The Storey County GIS division provides some maps available for download by the general public. Most often, however, the maps produced are in response to specific requests by other government agencies. Special request maps are not available to the public at this time. For a list of the maps available, please click here.

What is a plat map?

A plat consists of a map, drawn to scale, showing the divisions of a piece of land, city, town or village. Plat maps illustrate subdivisions, blocks, and parcels as identified in legal descriptions for property boundaries. Additionally, they typically display streets and other landmarks as well as identify the Assessor Parcel Number (APN) for a given property.
