Criminal (Felony, Gross Misdemeanor, Misdemeanor)

Any criminal case prosecuted by the Storey County District Attorney or the office of the Attorney General, whether felony, gross misdemeaor or misdemeanor, all commence with the filing of a complaint in the Storey County Justice Court. A complaint is the document that sets out the charges against you by count.

All arraignments and first appearances on felony, gross misdemeanor, driving under the influence and domestic violence charges are held on Wednesdays at 1:30 P.M.

At this hearing, the judge will advise you of your constitutional rights and read you the charge(s) as they appear on the complaint. The judge will also answer any procedural questions you may have such as the right to bail and the right to a court appointed attorney if you qualify.

If the matter is a felony and/or gross misdemeanor, a preliminary hearing will be set. If the charge is for driving under the influence or domestic violence, the case may proceed to sentencing, or it may need to be reset for another appearance.
