The current detention center was built in 1992. The Storey County jail is an 18 bed, adult facility (juveniles are housed in Carson City at the Juvenile Facility). Located at 911 State Route 341 S. in Virginia City, the jail is on the truck route approximately ¼ mile from town. The jail currently houses the communications facility/dispatch services.
Visiting Hours and Requirements
The Storey County jail is open for visitors on Saturday, Sunday and Monday
from 2 p.m.– 5 p.m. All visitors must be 18 years old and have a valid
identification card. A parent or legal guardian must accompany all minors.
Proof of guardianship must be shown. A maximum of two minors per adult are
permitted per visit.
Visitation may be terminated under certain circumstances and if deemed necessary by the deputy on duty.
Mail may be sent to inmates however, the jail will not accept or distribute any packages or cash sent through the mail.
Please note, inmates are not allowed to receive from visitors, or through the mail, the following items:
- Cards
- Polaroid pictures
- Any photos containing nudity
- Stickers or items glued to correspondence
- Postage stamps or return envelopes
- Miscellaneous loose items like confetti
- Physical contact visits
- Correspondence from other correctional facilities
