Detention Facility
The state of Nevada has 17 counties and 22 jail facilities. Each of the counties is responsible for the operations of their respective jails. In Storey County, there is one operating detention center that provides secure housing for persons charged with misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors and felonies who have not yet been convicted. Criminals, who are permitted a bail, are detained at this detention center until they can post bail, while persons charged with crimes are held here pending the outcome of their case. For misdemeanors, criminals can spend up to one year in the county jail, as opposed to convicted felons who are sentenced to the state prison system or probation.
