Ad Valorem

The Storey County Assessor’s primary duty is to determine the value of all taxable real and personal property in the county for ad valorem purposes. The term ad valorem derives from the Latin phrase meaning “according to value.” Property ad valorem taxes are the major source of revenue for county services, including schools.

Nevada statutes limit the rate of the ad valorem property tax to a total of $3.64 for each $100 assessed valuation. Assessment is 35% of full cash value. The ad valorem revenue derived from old property in the aggregate is limited to a 6% annual growth rate without a vote of the people.
