District Court Responsibilities
The Storey County District Court has general jurisdiction over all legal disputes. This is the court where criminal, civil, family, and juvenile matters are generally resolved through arbitration, mediation, and bench or jury trials. The judges also hear appeals from Justice Court cases.The court serves to protect the rights of the individual by adhering to Nevada Revised Statutes, Supreme Court Rules, and Local Court Rules.
The First Judicial District Court serves Storey County and Carson City. It is comprised of two elected district judges. Both judges have a judicial assistant, law clerk, and court reporter.
Hearing Dates
If you have a case filed in Storey County and want to set a hearing date, you must contact the Judges’ Chambers in Carson City. All civil settings for Carson City and Storey County are held each Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the office of the judicial assistant for each respective court.The First Judicial District Court is unique because of the variety of cases, many with statewide significance. It is the court of jurisdiction for certain petitions for judicial review of administrative decisions and election law cases.
