Elevation Certificates

Elevation Certificates for Storey County are maintained and compiled by the county Building Department and are available on the county website: Government/Departments/Planning/Elevation Certificates.

Elevation Certificates are used to help ensure that all new buildings and substantial improvements in Special Flood Hazard Areas (SFHAs) are properly elevated. This elevation information is required in order to ensure that all new building projects maintain compliance with floodwater elevation guidelines. FEMA has developed an elevation certificate template to help ensure this information is recorded uniformly and completely. FEMA's elevation certificate may also be used to obtain flood insurance.

For more information about the guidelines for elevation certificates, as well as a copy of FEMA's certificate template, please visit FEMA's webpage on Elevation Certificates
