Storey County Fiber Distribution Project
Bringing High-Speed Fiber Internet to Your Home and Business
Storey County is proud to partner with CC Communications and Google to bring fast, reliable fiber internet service to homes and businesses throughout the county. This major project aims to improve connectivity, support local jobs, and enhance county services.
Project Areas
Here's the latest update as of April 2026: The initial buildout of the fiber network in Virginia City and Gold Hill is now complete. That means the fiber lines are in place and ready to serve homes and businesses in the area. However, service is not turned on automatically. If you would like to connect to fiber, you will still need to contact CC Communications to schedule the final installation and connection at your home or business.
To schedule your service, call CC Communications at 775-423-7171 or visit www.cccomm.net.
Fiber is fully deployed in Virginia City and Gold Hill. CC Communications will expand to Virginia City Highlands in Spring of 2026 and other areas of Storey County, subject to weather conditions, permitting, and supply chain availability. This expansion into the Highlands is anticipated to begin in April 2026, with updates provided over the next few months.
What You Need to Know About Fiber Installation
- County-Funded Installation
- Storey County is funding fiber infrastructure to homes and businesses in the project area. Installation costs are covered for eligible properties up to 500 feet.
Eligibility requires a commercial utility pole located within the property line. Properties without an existing commercial pole on-site are not eligible at this time.

- Timeline:
- Fiber installation in the Virginia City Highlands is expected to take six to eight months, depending on weather conditions and agreements with pole owners. Customers will be connected on a rolling basis as each drop is completed.
- Installation Process
- CC Communications technicians will install fiber lines (called a “drop”) to homes and businesses, primarily using existing utility poles. In some cases, if pole access is not possible, installation may require underground work within an existing right-of-way.
If access across private property is necessary, the company will contact the property owner to determine the best approach. Drops typically take about 10 days to complete once scheduled. Technicians may need brief access to your property to install fiber lines, similar to other utilities.

- Costs
- For eligible properties with a commercial utility pole located within the property line, installation is covered up to 500 feet. If the fiber run exceeds 500 feet to the home or business, the cost will not exceed $1,000.
- Your Options
- You can choose to opt out of having fiber installed at your property. But please note: if you refuse the drop now, you will need to pay out-of-pocket if you decide to have it installed later. You are not required to have fiber installed on your property. CC Communications will not cross private property or attach a network interface device without contacting the owner first. If you wish to discuss installation or have concerns, you can contact CC Communications at 775-423-7171 or email cs@cccomm.co.
- No Obligation to Subscribe
- Having the fiber line (drop) installed does not obligate you to sign up for internet service. CC Communications will follow up at a later time to ask if you’d like to activate service when it becomes available.
However, if you decline the drop now, you may be responsible for the full cost of installation in the future.

- Will this damage my property?
-
No. Fiber installation is done with minimal impact to your property. CC Communications technicians may need brief access to your yard or the exterior of your home—similar to other utility services. A small hole will be drilled to bring the fiber line into your home or business if there isn't one already existing that can be used.
- How long will crews be working?
-
The connection to each home or business typically takes one to four hours, depending on the complexity of the building. CC Communications crews may be active in your neighborhood for several days as they complete connections for nearby properties. You’ll receive notice before work begins near your home.
- Do I have to be home during installation?
-
In most cases, you do not need to be home. Technicians can complete the exterior work without entering your home. If additional interior setup is needed when you choose to activate service later, CC Communications will schedule a time to complete it with you.
- Who do I call if I have a problem?

Storey County Manager’s Office – 775-847-0968 - What if I already have another provider?
-
That’s completely fine. Having fiber installed now does not affect your current service or require you to switch. It simply provides the option to use fiber in the future at no cost for installation. If you decline the connection now, reconnecting later may involve setup fees on your end.
- I have no interest in the installation of fiber. How do I opt out entirely?
-
If you do not want fiber installed on your property, you can notify the CC Communications technicians directly when they arrive. Please note that future installation after opting out may involve additional costs on your end.
